Back to Blogging….
It’s been soooo long since I blogged. Holidays, Birthdays, 60th Wedding Anniversary parties…the broken blog kinda took a back seat to all that….but things are starting to settle down, the blog is now fixed (Thanks Becca <3), so things can now go back to their regularly scheduled programming
I have about a thousand different blog posts written out from my time away, OK well not a thousand…but it seems like it. Many of those have to do with Project Life. Yup, I decided to take on Project Life this year, although my process is a little different then most, so I am excited to share it with everyone. I feel like the queen of failed projects, in fact I almost dumped PL week one….but as we wrap up week three I think I have a system that works for me. It also helps that I am a member of a really supportive group on Facebook and the amazing people posting in the Project Life section at The Lilypad.
I mentioned towards the end of last year on my Facebook Page that I had some major plans for the new year…I am excited to say that some of those are starting to come together. It’s such an exciting and nerve wracking time.
The first and biggest thing, is the all new Scrapbook Challenges.

It has been such a long process…lots of blood sweat and tears, and I am so proud that it’s finally open. Starting in February we are adding a couple new challenges…including a couple digi ones!
Next comes the plans and changes here and with BZB Designs. You know I have been doing this design thing for almost 4 years now….I design because I like it and it’s fun for me. I don’t think I would ever leave the design part of digi completely, but since enrolling in school, I found other things that I like just as much. So I am excited to say that you will see quite the expansion in the coming months in the store. I will be adding a new line of party printables, birth announcements and other photo cards, as well as some blog design packages (both custom & pre-made for Blogger only). Later this year I also am hoping to have a few other physical products for sale, some scrapbook related and some not
Before I go I thought I would post a quick link to a freebie I made last weekend. It was for the Scrapbook Challenges Blog Hop:
You can grab it here. I also finally update my freebies page here so check it out to see if there is anything new you might like

10 Things Tues – DSD 11 Re Cap

I remember when I started digi my budget was outta control. Of course we only had one kid and living in Germany we actually saved money. I also remember I would download every single freebie I came across…then again I had no idea how much space scrap supplies could occupy on your hard drive….I’ll admit it, I was a digi hoarder….I have become much more selective since lol.
Because of my two EHD crashes this year I had actually set a little higher budget that I did last year, setting $30 dollars aside for DSD this year. I am gonna be completely honest….about 95% of my DSD Wish List was items from The Lilypad. Well, since becoming a Polly that kinda freed up most my budget. So I had fun doing a little shopping this year and even found some really great freebies, which always helps the budget

{Blog Your Heart} October 2011
I am taking a little queue from Ms. Stephanie Howell and doing her Blog Your Heart monthly challenge. It’s nice to just let it all out once in a while. Here goes….
1. Lately I feel disconnected from my friends and family back home. I haven’t lived in Washington for almost 5 years now. Yes, I have been lucky enough to go home for extended visits but it’s not the same. It seems like there is so much happening up there right now…weddings, babies, birthdays, more babies…and I am so far away. Even here with my own kids new activities and events, Bubba in school and soccer and Moo in dance…and they are missing seeing them grow up as well. Sometimes I think it’s hard for the Sarge to understand my feelings of loneliness too….and it’s totally not his fault. A. He’s a dude and B. he joined the army in 95 at the fresh age of 18…I don’t think he has been back to Georgia for anything longer than a few weeks since. Don’t get me wrong, I know he loves and misses his family, but he has just been doing this longer. Plus he literally has family all over the south. Before we moved to Germany I didn’t live more than 30 minutes away from the most important people to me. I don’t know…maybe it’s just because it’s that time of year that is all about seeing your family and being with loved ones that I am in this funk.
2. It doesn’t help that in real life, if I don’t know you, I am PAINFULLY shy and insecure…which means that I am quite lonely right now. Those who do know me who are reading this are probably like, “Yea right!”, but remember you know me…and probably have known me for a long time or you know me online, where it is much easier to be completely AWESOME! But anyhow, I am working on this one as best as I can….trying to come out of my shell and open up to new people and opportunities. Once a month or so some of the guys that Sarge works with all get together and go watch the UFC fights down at Buffalo Wild Wings. During the last fight while they were enjoying their wings, beer and the fight, a couple wives and their kids came over to our house for pizza and play time. I was super nervous and awkward at first…I never know what to say and I always worry that I am talking about myself too much or sharing too much. But I think doing it at our house helped…you know the whole “home field advantage” thing and all. The kids had a blast and it really was what Bubba and Moo need. One of Bubba’s biggest problems since he started school has been the social aspect. He isn’t quite where he needs to be socially, and I can’t help but think that it’s partly my fault. I decided that I can’t let my shyness hold my kids back. Since the Pizza night we all met one Sunday at the Pumpkin Patch and I even hosted a Halloween party here last weekend.
3. There are days where I feel like everything I do with Moo is wrong. I am so used to dealing with how Bubba grew and the age that he was when he reached certain milestones due to his prematurity, that I am constantly questioning what I am doing with Moo. Even though she is our second child, there are days that I feel like a first time parent with her. Not to mention all the boy/girl differences.
4. I have been without an internet connection since last Thursday…I am going insane. I am doing this entire blog post from my iPhone! I even got a text from AT&T today saying that I am at 65% of my data plan…I have the 2 gig plan and I have NEVER gone over my data!! It amazing how just disconnecting for a few days seems to send my world into a tail spin. I feel like I am letting the ball drop on some major projects that I have in the works for other people….party printables that I am designing for my best friends boys, a logo design for another friend, a blog design for a friend of a friend, a site design for my own scrapbooking group…all that can’t be done without the net. I’m not going to lie though, the break is kinda nice…I just wish it didn’t have to be at the expense of other people…and I am hoping and praying they understand.
5. The no internet thing is causing me to go through some major Pinterest withdrawals. I still can get on there once in a while, but of course the Pinterest app is being a total pain in the you know where and the mobile site never seems to work for me. Not only am I having Pinterest withdrawals… I’m having scrapping withdrawals too. I guess that is one downside of being a digi scrapper….all the designers that I CT for are working on some amazing things and I can’t download and play. I really hope no one is getting ready to fire me lol.
6. Enough of being a downer….Speaking of Pinterest and digi scrapping…I did have one amazingly awesome pinch me I still don’t think its real thing happen to me late last week. I was asked to be a Polly…and not just any Polly…the Pinterest Polly. Insert little girl squeal right here. Seriously I cried….it was totally unexpected and completely amazing. Wait a sec…I should probably back track here for a minute and tell you what a Polly is lol. My absolute favorite digital scrapbooking store is hands down The Lilypad. Seriously, all of my favorite designers sell there and my favorite scrappers hang there….it’s an amazing community to belong to. I was already lucky enough to CT for three talented designers who sell at TLP, Jacque Larsen, Sahlin Studio and Heather Hess. The Pollywogs or Pollys are the site/store CT. I think I have applied to every single call they have ever had and then last week I was asked to come on board the team. If I ran, at that moment I could have run a 5K with all my excitement….ok well maybe not a 5K…but probably at least around the block…hmmm definitely to the mailbox and back a few times
Wow…getting all this out has really made me realize how much I miss blogging. I think it’s time to get back on track with my blogging and designing. It’s time to reorganize, reenergize and prioritize.
{Goin’ Digi} Guest Post & Giveaway!
I am super excited to being you my very first blog post from a guest poster today. Shannon is an amazingly talented chick. Seriously everything she does is beautiful…digi scrapping, photography aaannnddd she just started dabbling in hybrid. Before making the switch to digi, Shannon was also an amazing paper scrapper. Last year she wrote a great blog post about her decision to switch to digi and I asked her if I could share it here today, because it perfectly echos my own reasons for digi scrappin…but enough of my babbling…I will let Shannon introduce herself and tell you why she went digi <3

Hi! I’m Shannon and today I’m going to share with you why I went digital and why I’m loving it. First I’m going to quickly introduce myself. I’m a military wife (USMC) and a stay at home mom to two little girls. Right now I live in Twentynine Palms, CA. We’ll soon be moving to Tampa, FL…but not soon enough! I’ve been digital scrapping since November 2010, and I paper scrapped for 3 years before that. In addition to scrapping I enjoy photography, reading, working out and HGTV. You can find my blog at www.shannondombkowski.com.
In early 2007 I walked into a local scrapbook store in my hometown. It was love at first sight. So much beautiful eye candy! I’ve always had a crafty side and a desire to make pretty things. I tried my hand at various crafts and hobbies throughout high school and college but none really stuck. But I was about to get married and I wanted to document it – so I turned to scrapbooking. I had no knowledge of it so I bought what looked good (which, most definitely, would not be things I’d buy now – but I think most scrappers could say that about their first purchases!) and eagerly awaited the wedding photos so I could get to work. For the first 6 weeks that we were married I was unemployed and living 3,000 miles away from anyone I knew so I had long days to myself while Rich worked – which is when I created my first scrapbook. It was so much fun! But then I finished…and I didn’t have anything else to scrapbook (it never occurred to me to scrapbook us…). So my newfound hobby was set aside for about a year.
Then, in October 2008, a friend of mine had a Creative Memories party. I looked through the catalogs and fell in love with scrapbooking all over again – just not the CM style. I ordered some storage from the party and then hit up Michael’s and Joann’s for supplies. Madison was 3 months old…which means I had tons of pictures and I was determined to scrap every.single.one. And I did…bless my heart. It was around that same time that another friend suggested twopeasinabucket.com as a place to find great scrapping ideas and supplies. From then on, my scrapping life was never the same. I found so much inspiration, techniques, tips & tricks and new supplies. For the next 2 years I lived at 2peas (well, I still do
) and happily scrapped my memories. I was a paper scrapper who wrinkled my nose at the mention of digital scrapping saying that I could never give up my supplies. I needed to feel the paper and photos and embellishments. I needed to use a paper cutter and adhesive. I needed to get my hands inky. All the money I spent building my arsenal of paper supplies and tools would have been a waste.
Then, in November 2010, I took a peek of the “dark side”. I downloaded a free kit and watched a video from 2peas about the basics of digital and Photoshop Elements. I followed along and at the end of the video I had a page that wasn’t half bad. The video was month one in a year long, monthly Digi 101 class so I promptly downloaded the PDFs of all the months that were available. I read them and followed along in PSE…learning new things and finding myself hooked. It was then that I decided to dive head first into digi. My only regret? That I didn’t convert sooner. No, really. I know that’s cliché….but I really wish I’d given it a try sooner.
There’s a lot of things I love about digi, but here’s a short list:
* undo. I cannot tell you how many times I wished I had “undo” for paper scrapping. On the occasion that I paper scrap now…I’m often saying “I wish I’d done that digi” because I cut something wrong or I don’t like the placement of something or I adhered something not quite straight.
* there is a plethora of supplies. There are so many digital shops online. I spent the first 2 weeks or so of my digital journey checking out as many as I could find. Now I’ve pretty much found my home at 2peas, Design House Digital and Oscraps. Those are the stores with the most designers that fit my style – though I do shop at other stores for just a few particular designers. It’s easy to become overwhelmed, though, which is why I only stick to a few stores.
* instant gratification. I don’t have a local scrapbook store. I don’t even have a big box store within an hour and a half of my house. Which means that for the last 2 years I have been ordering supplies online and waiting for them to be delivered. But what about when I’m feeling the urge to scrap right.this.instant and I don’t have any supplies that speak to me? Not a problem anymore. If I can’t find something in my digi stash then I peruse my favorite shops, purchase and download. Easy peasy.
* a lot of designers release a new kit at least twice a month. None of that waiting for the 2 CHA shows for a bajillion new releases. There’s always something new and fresh. Along those lines – you don’t have to worry about the papers or elements or kits that you wanted selling out because it’s such a hot ticket item. There is no selling out in digi!
* reuse. reuse. reuse. No more coveting that great piece of patterned paper or great embellishment set.
* price. Quite frankly, I think that digi is cheaper. Sure, you’d have to buy a program to scrap in if you didn’t already own it – but that’s probably the biggest expense. You can get kits for as little as $7! Show me a [good quality] paper kit at that price. Plus most designers have their kits discounted 15-20% on the day of release…or even the entire week after it’s released. Some could argue that printing is expensive but I don’t think it is (I don’t print at home….I use Persnickety who charges $1.99/page for 12×12 and $0.99/page for 8×8)
* I don’t feel as limited in what I can do. With paper I love the look of stitching but that would require a sewing machine and knowledge of how to use it (or spending time hand stitching…which I have done). With digital I have a set of go-to stitches that I use on almost every page. Again, with paper I like the look of misting and paint but I only have 3 colors of mist, and 3 bottles of paint – and they don’t match all of the patterned papers I have. I don’t have to worry about that with digi – I have a few brushes that mimic the look of paint and mist and my color choices are almost endless.
